The family of Andrew Ronald Segedi is saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the age of 91 years.
Beloved husband of 71 years of the late Gayle Segedi, who passed March 2023. Loving father of the late Barrett (the late Gail) Segedi, the late Bradly Segedi, Rebecca (John) Bintinger, Kathleen (Robert) Sobocinski. Proud grandfather of Johnny, Jeffrey, and Andrew.
Andrew was born on December 16, 1931 to the late Steve and Rose Segedi. He was the 9th of thirteen children. Andrew is survived by his sister Virginia Kollar of Bentleyville, PA and sisters-in-law Patricia Segedi of Dearborn Heights, Beverly Segedi of Dunedin, FL and Jean Alsko of Bentleyville, PA. He will be forever remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Andrew lived in Ellsworth, PA throughout his youth. He graduated in 1950 from Ellsworth High School. During high school he was a remarkable athlete, a standout in football. Andrew supported his team by playing in the running back position.
Andrew moved to Michigan with his wife Gayle in 1951. It was there he and Gayle raised their beautiful family. Andrew remained a devoted citizen of Lincoln Park until his last days.
Andrew was active throughout his community and surrounding area. In 1963, Andrew began working at Marathon Petroleum Company and worked there until his retirement in 1994. He worked in the warehouse and in operations. Charity work and comradery within his community was important to Andrew. He was a member of numerous organizations including Knights of Columbus of Lincoln Park #3078, Southwest Athletic Club in Melvindale, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Port District 2148 in Southgate. Andrew was a Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2566 in Lincoln Park in which he was a golden member. His membership was held there for over 60 years. He also served as the Former Public Safety Commissioner for the City of Lincoln Park. Being a member of these groups highlighted his desire to regularly be out and about with friends. Andrew was a social person who always had a good story to share or something to talk about.
Family was always Andrew's top priority. He adored his wife Gayle, his children, and grandchildren. His favorite moments were always the ones spent at Rebecca or Kathy's house on the weekends. The time was spent watching movies, having parties, enjoying summer barbeques, or watching one of his favorite teams play. Andrew was a devoted fan of Tigers baseball, Lions football, and of course the Pittsburgh Steelers football games. He never wanted to miss a game. Andrew adored his grandchildren, and they adored him. The grandkids always knew that Grandpap never said 'No'. He always had something special planned to do with the grandkids. Food was always the way Andrew and Gayle expressed their love. Gathering around a table for the holidays, in the backyard, or even just going out to lunch was always a way they spent quality time with the ones that mattered to them most.
Andrew will be sincerely missed by his family and friends.
