Brian Jeffery Dennis Sandberg

August 31, 1978 — April 2, 2024

Detroit

Brian was born on August 31, 1978 and left us April 2, 2024. He is survived by his parents, Brian and Linda Sandberg, his brothers, Scott and Christopher Sandberg, his niece, Ava Sandberg, and nephews Scott Adamson, Chance Sandberg, and Daniel Sandberg, and many other family and friends.

Brian lived his life according to his own rules. He was intelligent and inquisitive. He had a great mind,  and always enjoyed a good joke or a round of trivia.

As a child, he was a state medalist in swimming and won trophies in gymnastics, Later, he enjoyed traveling across the country. He was a proud member of Laborers Local 1191 and most recently worked maintaining and delivering Bird scooters in Detroit.

Brian, or BJ, as he is known to his family and long time friends, was a student of the US Constitution and constitutional law. He was delighted to find himself a distant relative of Thomas Jefferson.

He was fond of asking people to name the 5 rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, and was disappointed if they couldn't do it! He loved nothing more than a good debate.

Brian loved his friends, made friends easily and had many. There was never anything he would not do to help anyone. He was the guy who would help a stranger change a tire. One story he told was of a homeless man he met in Detroit who had no gloves. Brian immediately took off his own and gave them to the man. He was generous with his friends as well, especially the children in his family and of his friends.

A Celebration of his life is being planned for this summer. Brian was plagued by alcoholism, a disease that would ultimately take his life far too soon. He will be greatly missed by those of us he leaves behind.

A private cremation will take place in the care of Solosy Funeral Home.
