The family of Consuelo Escamilla is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the age of 94 years.

Beloved mother of Valdemar (Yolanda) Escamilla, Consuelo Escamilla, Avel Escamilla, and Juan Carlos (Ranjeet) Escamilla. Proud grandmother of Sonya Barnes, Rebecca (Aaron) Johnston, Valdemar Escamilla Jr, Cristina Escamilla, and Raquel Escamilla. Dear great grandmother of Chance Barnes, Rayne Barnes, Cruz Barnes, and Santino Barnes.

Consuelo was born on January 28, 1929 to the late Eligio Padilla Ruiz and Josefina Vilchis. She had a large extended family including many siblings. Most of them resided in Mexico and some are still living; however, most preceded her in death. Her sister Gloria lived in the US; they grew up together and loved each other dearly. Gloria preceded Consuelo in death on February 15, 2018.

Consuelo lived a full life. She was an expert tailor and spent many decades using her artistic abilities to craft fine clothing. She became renown for her work in men's dress attire. Throughout the years, she tailored clothing for many well-known Detroiters including Jacques Demers, Lee Iacocca, Chuck Daly, and Coleman Young. She served faithfully at Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit. She was an integral part of the Guadalupanas and the third order of St. Francis of Assisi. Consuelo started the first chapter of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Holy Cross Parish in Detroit. Her faith was dear to her and a source of inspiration. Most of all, Consuelo had a deep and abiding love for her children. Throughout their lives, she loved and cared deeply for them. The love she showed her family will live on in their lives as a testament to her faithfulness.
