With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Dakota Thomas James Luna, who left this world far too soon on May 5, 2025, at the age of 29. Born on September 18, 1995, Dakota was a vibrant soul whose presence lit up every room he entered. He was the beloved son of the late Thomas Z. Luna and Janice Marie Williams, and a fiercely devoted brother, husband, uncle, and friend.
Dakota was the "cool kid on the block" growing up—surrounded by friends, known for his big personality, and loved by all. He had a lifelong passion for football, which he eventually turned into a coaching role, mentoring kids with the same energy and heart that he brought to everything he did. Dakota also shared a love for professional wrestling with his father, and many cherished memories were made watching WWE together.
He dedicated much of his life to giving back to his community. From feeding the homeless and organizing back-to-school drives to making sure children in need had a joyful Christmas, Dakota gave of himself freely and without hesitation. He never turned anyone away. He believed deeply in being a positive force in children's lives, and he lived out that calling with compassion and unwavering kindness.
Dakota is survived by the love of his life, Erica Luna. Their bond was strong, their years together filled with love, laughter, and countless shared milestones. He is also survived by his siblings: Thomas Luna, Marcus Luna, Cheyanne Nesteruk, and Cherokee Luna. Uncle to Bella, Mari, Thomas, Aaliyah, and Alfred, Dakota was the kind of uncle every kid dreams of—playful, supportive, and always present. His loyal German Shepherd, Alfonso James, was never far from his side.
He had a sharp sense of humor and loved to make others laugh—he proudly thought of himself as a comedian, and his quick wit and joyful spirit brought countless smiles to those lucky enough to know him. He loved his family deeply, cherished his friends, and absolutely hated green beans—you couldn't pay him to eat them.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Time of Sharing at 7:00 PM, at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park. A funeral service will follow on Friday, May 9, 2025, with an instate at 10:30 AM and service at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Church, 2071 Porter Ave., Lincoln Park, MI 48146.
Though our hearts ache with his loss, Dakota's legacy of love, generosity, laughter, and care will live on in every life he touched. He was truly one of a kind—and he will be missed beyond words.
