David Melendez

February 3, 1953 — May 5, 2024

David Melendez, a devoted family man, passionate sports enthusiast, and proud veteran, passed away on May 5, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on February 3, 1953, David was the beloved son of Celestino and Ana Melendez, both of whom have preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his son, David Willis Melendez.

David's life was marked by his love for his family. He is survived by his daughter, Damiyon as well as siblings, Angel Melendez and Celestino Melendez, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he cherished dearly. He is preceded in death by his dear sister, Irma Pena, who passed in 2019.

A true handyman at heart, David had a remarkable talent for fixing things and excelled in working with his hands. His love for tinkering and repairing extended beyond objects to relationships; he was known for his ability to mend and strengthen bonds with those around him.

David was a fervent sports fan, with a particular passion for Detroit teams, especially the Detroit Lions. Despite the occasional spike in blood pressure caused by their performances, he found immense joy in their 2023-2024 season. Additionally, he was a loyal supporter of Cleveland sports teams, never failing to cheer them on.

But above all, David cherished spending time with people. He thrived in the company of friends and made it a priority to connect with them on a weekly basis, whether it was to watch a game, share a meal, or simply enjoy each other's company.

David faithfully served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating bravery and dedication to his fellow soldiers. He will be laid to rest with honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, a fitting tribute to his commitment and sacrifice.

David Melendez's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family, friends, and country. May he rest in peace, knowing he touched the lives of many and left behind a legacy of love and service.
