Deborah Diane Gibson, lovingly known as Debbie, passed away on March 5, 2025, in Trenton, Michigan, at the age of 74. She was born on August 20, 1950, in Logan, West Virginia, to the late Ollie and Creda Mae Gibson.
Debbie grew up in West Virginia alongside her seven siblings, surrounded by many close cousins and loving family members. She later settled in Southeast Michigan, where she built a cherished life filled with love, family, and laughter.
She was a devoted mother to her beloved children, Joyce Rae McArthur and the late Tommy Lee Hess and Brook Ann Hess. She was a proud grandmother to Brittany Diane Patrick (Ryan Travis Patrick) and Nicole Marilyn Laurain (Thomas Yuhana), and a doting great-grandmother to Hayden Ryan Patrick, Connor Raymond Patrick, and Riley Nicole Patrick.
Debbie was a treasured sister to Carlene Avis, Susan Taylor, Ronald Gibson, and Polly Cripps. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lee Gibson, Roger Gibson, and Otis Gibson.
Throughout her life, Debbie held various jobs, but her favorite by far was working with children in childcare and latchkey programs. Her warmth and nurturing spirit made her the favorite Aunt among all family members. She found immense joy in sewing, often making baby blankets for new family members, and had a well-known love for scratch-off tickets—her luck in winning amazed everyone around her.
She found happiness in simple pleasures, whether it was relaxing with a Coors Light, playing Bunco, sitting around a campfire, or spending time with her dear family and friends. She especially cherished moments spent with her great-grandkids, celebrating Christmas, and capturing precious four-generation family photos. Living next door to her sister and best friend, Carlene, from 2007 was a blessing she held close to her heart. They converted Carlene's garage into a "she-shed" and enjoyed many days together including pool days along with the shed.
Debbie will always be remembered for her kindness, optimism, and ability to make a room laugh. She was the person who would drop everything to help a loved one in need and was someone everyone wanted to be around. Her love for her family was unwavering and deeply felt by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 1:30 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Brownstown Township, Michigan. A luncheon will be held immediately afterward at the Flat Rock Elks Lounge, 26917 Telegraph Rd, Flat Rock, MI 48134.
Debbie's love, laughter, and light will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
