Dorothy M. Kushnir

July 22, 1941 — November 2, 2018

New Boston

Age 77.  Dear wife of Bohdan J. Kushnir.  Dorothy was a Teacher in the Detroit Public Schools for many years and she was very active member in many things at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lincoln Park.  Visitation Tuesday November 6, 2018 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a  Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Instate Wednesday November 7, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy spent much of her life setting new goals, and seeking a new sense of self as she was looking for ways to better define who she was and along the way. From her childhood until the age of 24 she set goals of a greater education, and as she discovered the need for a more spiritual growth that called her to serving God and entering the Convent until the age of 28. With her spiritual foundation guiding her and the opportunity to help children, she put her skills to use by becoming a Teacher in Detroit, to help mold and impart the minds of the inner city kids and teens with new aspirations and the education to help them get there. To continue her own education and interests, she also became a Lawyer and then a CPA too! While at Wayne State, she was advancing her interest in Music and to play the Piano along with the Violin when she met her husband Bohdan, an accomplished Pianist, Conductor and Instructor. They enjoyed spending many countless hours on the Piano together including many 4 handed pieces that they played together. Their life wasn't all about music though as they also enjoyed the many vacations a year they took to the U.P.
Along with trips throughout the U.S., and several extended vacations throughout Europe and other parts of the world to such places as Vienna, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, Africa, Kenya, and the Sahara, The Ivory Coast and many more. They enjoyed the extensive variety of scenery along with all the Architecture, Cathedrals, and the Cultures that helped stir both their mind and soul with inspiration and awe. Through out the years she was able to embrace her love for animals and especially horses as they raised several of their own and others on their New Boston acreage, including her favorite, Ticker, which she raised form a colt for 34 years.
For Dorothy, retirement was a shift from Teaching to then focusing on the other pursuits and interests she was drawn to, and helping people through her active work in the Church, donations to help animal rescue centers and even the tuition for young college students she's met as they're just starting out on this adventure we call life. Like many of us, she also discovered the ease and speed of doing things online with Amazon where whimsical purchases can done instantly, electronic books could consolidate her library and even taking multiple online classes was a breeze. Most recently of which was, Hebrew.
