Dorothy Barbara Roberts

July 30, 1947 — February 3, 2026

Dorothy Roberts, age 78, of Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Andrew and Elizabeth Hornok.

Dorothy grew up in the Delray neighborhood of Detroit as the second oldest of nine children. From an early age, she demonstrated a caring and protective spirit, taking several of her younger siblings under her wing to help guide them toward a brighter future. She was deeply involved in her childhood parish, Holy Cross Hungarian Catholic Church, where her faith and sense of community began to flourish.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Lee Roberts, whose partnership was the cornerstone of her life. Together they built a home defined by love, resilience, and unwavering support for their family.

She was the proud and devoted mother of Patricia Roberts-Gross (Thomas Gross), Elizabeth Roberts (Bethany Hopkins), and Caroline Naumowicz (Craig Naumowicz). Dorothy’s greatest wish was always that her daughters would have opportunities and a life even better than her own, and she found immense joy in watching them grow and succeed.

She is survived by her siblings Kathy, Robert, Jim, and Fran, and was preceded in death by Rose, Andrea, Louie, Anthony, and niece Tressa Hornok. Dorothy also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, including a special bond with her nephew Bobby Kovacs. She will be dearly missed by her close friend Nancy Harris (John Harris). Dorothy was also preceded in death by significant friends Arthur and Rita Roberts.

Dorothy was known for her vibrant personality—loud, outspoken, and refreshingly honest—but beneath that strong exterior was an enormous heart. Her home was always open to anyone in need, and her compassion extended beyond her family as she volunteered teaching English as a second language to adults in night school, helping others build better lives.

A woman of many talents, Dorothy loved crocheting, creating beautiful afghans that earned awards at the State Fair. She also enjoyed making necklaces and jewelry, playing tabletop games, visiting with family, and vacationing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Many will fondly remember her famous clothespin cookies, lovingly made for those she cherished. In a unique chapter of her life, Dorothy and her husband served as movie reviewers on 100.3 WNIC during the 1990s, sharing their voices and opinions with the community.

Dorothy had a special place in her heart for her pets, especially her favorite cat, Pugsley, and her beloved dog, Mikey. Above all else, she found happiness in her family and took great pride in living “vicariously” through her daughters’ adventures and accomplishments.

Dorothy Roberts will be remembered for her fierce love, her generosity, her unmistakable voice, and the countless lives she uplifted through her care and encouragement. Her legacy of strength, devotion, and compassion will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Dorothy's cremation is taking place in the care of Solosy Funeral Home.
