Edward Michael Sikina

December 8, 1941 — March 4, 2024

Brighton

Edward Michael Sikina, 82, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024. Ed was born December 8, 1941, in Cardale, PA to salt-of-the-earth coal mining parents, Joseph and Mary Sikina. His childhood nickname was Cookie.

He married his beloved wife, Veronica Yantko on January 26, 1963. In May 1963 he graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in business administration. Soon after he and Veronica moved to Michigan to start his lifetime career in the automotive industry. He was the first Sikina to attend and graduate from college. Although successful in Michigan, he and Veronica never let go of their Pennsylvania family and roots, making many trips over the years to visit brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Family was everything.

Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Veronica, who passed away seven years ago. Together, they shared a bond of deep love and commitment that served as an inspiration to the family and all who knew them. He missed her terribly and spoke of her daily.

Ed is survived by his three sons, David Sikina (Cyndi), Gary Sikina, and Robert Sikina (Rebecca). He is survived by his four grandchildren Rebecca (Andrew) Samson, Michael Sikina, Nolan Sikina and Olivia Sikina. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren, Isaac, Matthew and Lucy Veronica Samson. He was lovingly known as G.G. by his adoring great grandchildren. Ed is further survived by his faithful dog, Josh, whom he loved dearly.

Ed was a devoted father to his three sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was always there to offer guidance, support, and unwavering love. His family was the center of his world.

Ed was known for his warm smile, straightforward but gentle demeanor, and generous spirit. When he wasn't at home enjoying family, he could be found enjoying a round of golf with his sons in matching shirts purchased by his wife. His kindness knew no bounds, and he touched the lives of countless people with his generosity and grace. His door was always open and together with his beloved Veronica they hosted many spirited family-and- friends' meals and get togethers. No one who ever walked in their door ever felt unwelcome or left hungry.

It was recently said by a family member that families get built through births and marriages, but Ed was more than a relative, he was a friend. Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to call him friend or family.

Though he may be gone from our sight, Edward will forever hold a special place in our hearts. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved wife, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

A funeral Mass will be held April 5th, 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in Detroit. A repast will be held at The Hungarian Rhapsody in Southgate immediately following Mass.
