It is with heartfelt love and deep sorrow that the family of Esther Helen Halfacer announces her passing on October 19, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on February 5, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, Esther was the beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Theresa (Preuss) Nickert.
On September 8, 1952, Esther married the love of her life, Paul Halfacer, after meeting while working together at Cleveland Container. They shared an incredible 71 years of marriage, building a life filled with devotion, family, and faith.
Esther was a loving mother to Paula (who preceded her in death), Corky (the late Lois), and Ernie (Dawn). She was a cherished grandmother to James (the late Ashleigh), Gary (Courtney), and Sara (Kevin), and a proud great-grandmother of two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her dear sister, Audrey, and was preceded in death by her siblings Ernest, Roland, Charles, Dorothy, and Gordon. Esther's life was also enriched by the lasting friendships she formed through her church family at St. Stephen, where she was a long-time and faithful member.
Esther grew up in Detroit, attending St. Stephen School and graduating from Southwestern High School. She often fondly recalled walking to school through her neighborhood as a child.
A woman of many talents and joys, Esther loved gardening and flowers, caring for birds, shopping, going to garage sales, cooking, and baking. She was skilled at crocheting and found joy in creating handmade pieces. Esther was also active with TOPPS, where she worked out regularly, served as a trustee on the board, and considered her fellow members like family.
Gentle and soft-spoken, Esther was known for her kindness, compassion, and deep love as a mother and friend. She gave of herself generously, living a life that reflected her caring spirit.
Her memory will be treasured always by her family and friends, who will forever remember her warmth, devotion, and the love she poured into every aspect of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Esther's memory with a gift to a charity close to your heart, or by planting a tree or flower at home as a lasting reminder of her life and love. St. Stephen Lutheran Church was also near and dear to Esther and Paul. A memorial gift can be mailed to 1235 Lawndale, Detroit, MI 48209 or a marked envelope can be given at visitation or funeral service.
Visitation for Esther will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park, Michigan.
