Eugene Antonio Degg, age 86, of Ecorse, Michigan, passed away on October 11, 2026. Born on April 9, 1940, in Highland Park, Michigan, Eugene was the son of the late Eugene F. Degg and Angeline M. (D'Angelo) Degg.
Eugene was a hardworking and talented man who spent much of his life working for the railroad. Beginning his career in 1956, he continued working until his retirement at the age of 61. A skilled welder, Eugene took great pride in his work and had a natural ability for working with metal. He enjoyed using his hands, whether on the job or working on projects of his own.
Outside of work, Eugene had a variety of interests that kept him busy. He loved motorcycles, hunting, and fishing, but one of his greatest pastimes was visiting yard sales and garage sales. He affectionately referred to his treasure hunting as "mousing around," and he never seemed to tire of searching for his next great find. Eugene also had a special love for animals and cherished the many pets that were part of his life over the years.
His Catholic faith was an important part of Eugene's life, beginning in his childhood when he attended St. Andrew and Benedict School and served as an altar boy. He often spoke fondly of Sister Mary, whom he credited with helping keep him on the straight and narrow during his younger years. Those early lessons and memories remained meaningful to him throughout his life.
Eugene was the loving father of the late Gino David Degg, the late Michael Allen Degg, Anthony Arnold (Jeana) Degg, Levy Farrel (Pamela) Degg, and the late Mariah Kai Bucklew. He was the cherished grandfather of Chelsea Whitehead, Zachary Bucklew, and Devin Bucklew. He was the dear brother of the late Sandra, the late Daniel, the late Timothy, Lana, and the late Pamela, along with extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park, Michigan. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:30 PM.
Eugene will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock immediately following the funeral service.
