Francisco Vargas Gonzalez

The family of Francisco Vargas Gonzalez is saddened to announce his passing on September 11, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on November 15, 1942, Francisco was the beloved son of the late Leon Vargas and Maria Luisa Gonzalez.

Francisco lived a humble and simple life, but the impact he made on the lives of others was anything but small. He was a generous man with a strong work ethic and a natural willingness to help anyone in need. If someone was struggling, Francisco did not wait to be asked—he was ready to lend a hand. Over the years, he welcomed people into his own home and helped them get back on their feet, offering the same kindness and opportunity that he remembered receiving when he first came to the United States from Mexico. He never forgot those who had helped him along the way, and he believed deeply in paying that kindness forward.

Before coming to the United States, Francisco proudly served in the Mexican Navy with distinction and honor. He also worked as a tailor in Mexico, a trade he continued after coming to the United States during the 1970s. He later brought his skills and strong work ethic to the automotive industry, working in upholstery.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Francisco’s life was the love he shared with his wife, Vianey Gonzalez. The two met in Acapulco, Mexico, while Francisco was stationed there as a sailor with the Navy and Vianey was working on the base. Their meeting marked the beginning of a love story that would span more than three decades. They fell in love, married, and built a beautiful life together, one grounded in love, respect, devotion, and family. Francisco and Vianey were married for 33 years until her passing on December 10, 1999. Together, they raised five children and created a family legacy that remained at the heart of Francisco’s life. The love and memories they shared continued to be an important part of who he was throughout the years.

Music was an important part of Francisco's life. He enjoyed playing the guitar, composing music, and writing song lyrics. He especially loved mariachi music and was never afraid to join in with a mariachi band when the opportunity presented itself—particularly at a wedding or family celebration. Music brought out the joyful side of Francisco and was one of the many ways he connected with the people around him.

Francisco also enjoyed boxing, soccer, swimming, watching the news, and spending time in his garden. He took particular pride in caring for his roses. He will also be missed by his cat, Gary, who was a special companion to him. He appreciated life's simple pleasures, including a good tequila, good music, and time spent with the people he loved. His dry sense of humor was unmistakably his own, and he loved making others laugh.

Above all, Francisco wanted the very best for his children and grandchildren. He encouraged them to work hard, accomplish more than he had, and take advantage of every opportunity life offered them. He wanted them to soar, succeed, and build lives filled with happiness. His own life—marked by hard work, perseverance, humility, and generosity—gave them an example to follow.

Francisco was the loving father of Jorge G. (Mikelle) Vargas, Oscar Vargas, Julio (Melly) Vargas, Patricia G. (Antonio) Delagarza, and Veaney (Juan Rubio) Gonzalez.

He was the cherished grandfather of Esteban Vargas, Destiny Vargas, Alyse (Jesus) Perez, Julio-Alejandro Vargas, Emily Jasmine Vargas, Amaris Delagarza, Jesus Gonzalez, Eduardo Rubio, Esmeralda Rubio, Eliana Rubio, Gianna Rubio, and Juan Evelardo Rubio; and proud great-grandfather of Isabella Perez and Camilla Perez.

Francisco also remained in contact and shared a lasting friendship with his former wife, Maria Luisa Macias, even after their marriage ended. He is loving remember by his stepchildren Deyla Ramirez, Brenda Ramirez, and Alonso Ramirez.

Those who knew Francisco will remember a hardworking man who never needed much for himself but was always willing to give what he had to someone else. His humor, music, generosity, and determination will live on through the family he loved and the many people whose lives were made better because Francisco was willing to open his door and offer a helping hand.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Francisco on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park. Francisco will lie in state beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM.

Following Mass, Francisco will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.
