Fred Leon Selvidge

Age 73. Beloved husband of Pat. Loving father of Callie (Ron) Demski, Jill (Tom) Ferris, Michael Selvidge, Christopher Klein,  and the late Ron Selvidge. Dear brother of Nelta, Charles, and Harold. Beloved son of the late Thomas and Callie Selvidge. Dearest grandfather of Meaghan, Madison, and Matthew Demski, Ryan, Sara, and Lindsey Selvidge, and Samantha, Lilly, and Natalie Klein. Partner in crime with Reita Southard. Dearest uncle of Jessica Frederick, Courtney Wisniewski, Gabrielle Southard, Hannah Frederick, and Mary Frederick. Fred is survived by many family members and loved ones.

Fred was a proud Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army. He served in the artillery. Upon completing his military service, he worked for the Postal Service for 42 years. He loved watching sports, specifically football and baseball.

He had an amazing green thumb which resulted in him creating an indoor tropical oasis. That is where he enjoyed sitting and playing his online games.

Fred loved having fun and making people smile through his pranks, silly hats and costumes that he liked to wear.

Decorating for the holidays was something that he looked forward to doing and he decorated for every one of them. Halloween and Christmas were his favorite and he went all in. His Halloween decorations included lights, animations, noises, smoke and anything he thought that the kids would enjoy. He would dress up and pass out toys and treats to hundreds of kids in all types of weather. His outdoor Christmas displays were so spectacular that he won awards for them twice.

He loved animals, all of them. He built special outdoor feeders for the birds and squirrels. He spent the majority of his time outside in the warmer months so he could watch the birds and squirrels frolic in the yard.

There were 3 special squirrels who befriended Fred. They would look for him when he wasn't outside. They would even peak in the house windows for him.

Fred was the type of person that all people and animals loved and enjoyed to be around. He will be missed by all.

There will be a celebration of life for Fred on Sunday February 26th from 2:00 - 7:00 pm at The American Legion Fort Dearborn Post 364.
