It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hilding "Bud" Edward Bihl Jr. on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
Hilding "Bud" Edward Bihl Jr. was born on July 18, 1941. Beloved husband of Carol Bihl and devoted father of the late Jonathan Edward Bihl. Loving second child of the late Hilding and Viola Bihl. Cherished brother of Karen (John) Bowman and David (Evelyn) Bihl and brother-in-law of Helen "Cathy" (Bob), Stephen (Lena), Lillian (Jim), Paul (Bea), John, and the late James (the late Glenda). Dear uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Devoted friend to many.
Bud grew up in a family deeply rooted in faith and Love for the Lord. His father served as a pastor, and the Bihl family was devoted to ministry, instilling in Bud a strong sense of purpose and a compassionate heart. Choosing to study psychology as a young man, Bud's motivation was rooted in a desire to explore the strength of Christianity compared to other worldviews. This decision showcased his intellectual curiosity and a profound commitment to understanding the human mind within the framework of his faith.
In his early years, Bud served in the role as the assistant pastor and youth director at his father's church, where he met the love of his life, Carol. Their love story began when they crossed paths at church when Bud was 26 and Carol was just 16. Carol and Bud's love story was a testament to the power of prayer and divine timing. During a family Bible study, Carol fervently prayed for guidance on whom to like. In a startling turn of events, shortly after that prayer, Bud knocked on her door to return an album she had lent him. Carol, recognizing the answer to her prayer, hid at first in nervousness to God's humor. Bud fondly recalled years later, a time he and Carol were serving at a children's Bible club together. It was then he found confirmation of his true love for Carol. Despite the rainy weather that week, the Lord always provided a dry time during the club. Many children came to know the Lord, and Bud knew they would seamlessly complement each other to spread the Love of Jesus. Through faith during the next few years of dating, the two fell in step with each other and began a beautiful journey together.
A bond guided by divine providence and love; Bud and Carol were married on July 25, 1969. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary adventure early in their marriage, living in Israel, Greece, and Germany, exploring the world they had come to know through their shared passion for reading the Bible. Living by faith, they encountered various opportunities for work and language study, creating a tapestry of experiences that shaped their lives.
Upon returning to the United States, Bud and Carol worked in ministry together, serving in various churches, including a house church. Their entrepreneurial spirit led them to start a bread business called "Daily Bread." They were committed to spreading the Love of Jesus to all they encountered. Bud also faithfully served as assistant pastor at First Baptist Trenton for an impressive 21 years, demonstrating his love for his church family.
Bud and Carol had more love to give, and God provided an opportunity for them to share their lives with a child. Through their ministry in Hamtramck, they welcomed Jonathan into their lives at the age of 13. Together, they shared countless outdoor adventures, camping trips, and everyday moments. Bud and Jonathan could never turn down an intense chess battle, which forged a last connection between father and son.
A scholar and creative spirit, Bud's deep love for studying the Bible was evident in his ability to speak and read Greek and Hebrew. He crafted songs from scripture, particularly cherishing Romans 1-8. Bud hosted the radio program "Bible Dialogue" and a business talk show, engaging with others on matters of faith and knowledge.
Bud brought joy to the lives of many through the art of humor. He had a unique ability to share the gift of genuine, heartfelt jokes. His good humor was not just a trait, but a legacy inherited from both parents, with his father passing down a repertoire of side-splitting jokes, while his mom contributed her quick wit to the family's comedic charm. Bud will continue to be remembered for the laughter and humor he shared.
Despite facing illness for many years, Bud's unwavering faith in his Savior remained steadfast. Bud's life was characterized by his commitment to family, faith, and friendship. His warm spirit and genuine kindness endeared him to all who knew him. As we mourn his passing, let us remember Bud for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the enduring legacy of faith.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the sign that the things not seen are true." -Hebrews 11:1 (This devotional verse was one of many that donned the back of the Daily Bread labels.)
