Jay Warren Tar

Jay Warren Tar, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at the age of 79 in Southgate, Michigan. Born on May 8, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, Jay's life was marked by dedication, love, and a gentle spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jay proudly served his country as a Vietnam Army Veteran, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his years. After his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a skilled trade electrician, retiring from Auto Alliance. His work was not just a job but a testament to his skill and reliability.

A man of faith, Jay was a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park, where he found strength and community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and relationships with others.

Jay's love for his family was immeasurable. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, and their children, Amy (Chris) Williamson and Jason (Betsy) Zobl-Tar. His grandchildren, Joshua Williamson, Ian (Chloe Sisneros) Williamson, and Sam Tar, brought immense joy to his life. He was a constant presence at their sporting events, cheering them on and celebrating their achievements. Jay is also survived by his sister, Dianne Williams, and was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Tar, and his parents, Julius and Thelma Tar.

An avid cyclist, Jay rode over 500 miles every summer, a testament to his vigor and zest for life. His love for the outdoors extended to leisurely walks and visits to the park, where he found tranquility and happiness. A true Detroit Tigers fan, Jay never missed a game, and his enthusiasm for his team was infectious.

Family was the centerpiece of Jay's world. He relished in spending time with his loved ones, whether it was going on vacations or simply gathering for a meal. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jay's legacy is one of a faith-filled, loving, and gentle man who lived his life with purpose and kindness. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his journey.

As we bid farewell to Jay Warren Tar, we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the profound impact he made on his family and community. He will be remembered not only for the life he led but also for the love he gave so freely and the grace with which he walked through the world.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for a visitation and service to honor Jay's life on Saturday, May 17th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park.  In state at 10 am and funeral at 11 am.  Reception details announced at the service.
