With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jeffrey Dennis Jones, who left this world peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 78. A man of immense character, deep faith, and unforgettable stories, Jeff's life was marked by love, resilience, and devotion to family.
Born on January 3, 1947, in the hills of Tennessee on Tunnel Hill, Jeff entered the world under the care of a midwife, the son of Hubert Jones and Livona Risden. Though born into humble beginnings, he was rich in the love of his family and the beauty of rural life. He learned early how to live off the land, forging a joyful and grounded childhood in the rolling Tennessee countryside. His stories of bartering goods, farming, and growing up in the hills became family treasures.
Jeff's vibrant life led him down many paths. At just 16 years old, he worked as a radio DJ in Oneida, Tennessee, where he had the thrill of meeting several prominent singers during the golden age of country music in the early 1970s. Later in life, he worked as an Accountant, a profession he took great pride in and truly enjoyed. His voice, charm, and natural gift for storytelling captivated listeners then, just as it would captivate friends and family throughout his life.
He was a man of deep roots and remarkable ancestry — a descendant of a shipowner who brought immigrants through Ellis Island and a relative of the infamous Hatfields and McCoys. His love for history and storytelling made him a living encyclopedia of the past, especially when it came to tales of his homeland.
Jeff was a hard worker in every sense of the word. Whether on the job, at home, or helping a friend, he gave his all. He found joy in nature, traveling, and the warmth of family life. He had a deep love for animals — especially dogs. Jeff's cherished Pomeranians, Joey and Missy — were a testament to his gentle, sensitive heart.
In 1997, Jeff converted to Catholicism and remarried the love of his life, Marianne Jones, with whom he shared a beautiful union of 49 years. Together, they built a life centered around love, faith, and unwavering support.
Jeff was the beloved father of Denise Jones and the late Jeffrey M. Jones, a loss he carried with strength and grace. He was the proud grandfather of Jeremiah Jones (Chelsea) and Josiah Jones, and the adoring great-grandfather of Stella Rose, Elijah, and Avery.
He is also survived by his dear half-siblings: Bobby, Dewey, Jerry, Stephani, Randy, Brian, Annie, and Cheryl, and his lifelong friend Tim B., whose companionship meant the world to him.
Jeff's life was not without struggle. He faced leukemia, stage four tongue cancer, and Parkinson's disease, which he battled courageously for 18 years. Despite his suffering, he found joy in life and strength in his faith, never letting illness define his spirit. His love for Jesus and the Catholic Church remained the foundation of his life.
Jeffrey Dennis Jones will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, loyal friend, mesmerizing storyteller, and a man of profound compassion and wisdom. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the stories he shared, and the enduring love he leaves behind.
He will be missed deeply but never forgotten.
A private cremation has taken place in the care of Solosy Funeral Home.
