Lincoln Park

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Michael Marietta, who left this world suddenly on August 21, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on April 11, 1964, John was the beloved son of the late Edwin Marietta and Marguerite Lorraine (Coburn) Marietta, who both preceded him in death during the 1990s.

John spent his early years in Detroit before his family moved to Lincoln Park, where he grew up and remained for much of his life. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School and went on to study Engineering in college. A man of many interests, John loved the outdoors in his younger years, especially motorcycling, traveling, and exploring places like Key West and Northern Michigan—destinations that held a special place in his heart.

John had a passion for cooking and gardening, often finding peace and joy in these simple pleasures. He was also an avid collector with a love for art and objects with an Asian influence. A true history buff, he enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge with others. Sundays and holidays were often his favorite times, spent with family around big dinners, where laughter and togetherness filled the room.

He was the cherished brother of James (Cynthia) Marietta and Lorraine (Floyd) MacBeth Underwood. He was a beloved uncle to nephews Sean Day, the late Jameson MacBeth, Matthew (Samantha) Marietta, and Eric (Jennifer) Marietta; nieces Lauren and Rachel Marietta; and his 17 great-nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him much pride and joy.

Though John had no children of his own, he poured his love into his family, his dog Sam, and his closest relationships. His best friends in life were his brother Jim and his loyal companion Sam, both constant sources of support and joy.

John's warmth extended beyond his family; he was known for his willingness to help others whenever he could. Over the years, he made countless friends—some who passed through for a season and others who remained forever. His love for The Simpsons, his fascination with history and art, and his devotion to his family will remain part of his lasting legacy.

Private cremation services have been entrusted to Solosy Funeral Home, and John's cremated remains will be laid to rest at Cadillac Memorial Cemetery.

Though his time was far too short, John left behind a life rich in love, laughter, and memories. He will be remembered always and forever missed by those who loved him most.
