John Joseph Oskarek Sr.

The family of John Joseph Oskarek Sr., age 87 of Lincoln Park is saddened to announce his passing on November 10, 2023.

Beloved husband of the late Ruth Oskarek. Loving father of Vicky (John) Barton, John Oskarek Jr., Paul (Sandy) Oskarek, Michael Oskarek and the late Catherine (the late Robert) Wethington. Dearest brother of the late Richard, the late Leonard, Veronica, and Joseph.  Dear grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 17 and great-great-grandfather of 6. John was also the dear godfather of Roseanne.

John lived a life of dedication and service. Upon graduating High School, he entered the United States Air Force where he served from 1954 until 1962. Much of his time was spent as an airplane mechanic. Through his time in the service, John was able to visit multiple different countries. The time he spent in Japan was the most memorable. As a result of his dedication and service, John attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon leaving service, John focused on raising a family with Ruth. He worked hard as a yardman in the automotive sector to provide a living for Ruth and the kids. When he wasn't working, John enjoyed racing. His racing interests were a bit varied. On the one hand, he loved spending time at Flat Rock Speedway racing cars. On the other hand, John was an accomplished pigeon racer. He had been taught about pigeon racing by his uncle and enjoyed the intricacies of the sport. Most of all, John was dedicated to his wife, Ruth, whom he lost in July. They loved spending time together at garage sales and flea markets.

John will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, 2:00 – 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 11:00 AM at Solosy Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Woodmere Cemetery.
