With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Jorge Roberto Garcia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who died on December 22, 2024, at the age of 68. Jorge's life was one of unwavering devotion to family, a tireless work ethic, and a deep love for his passions and the people around him.
Born on December 30, 1955, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Jorge was the oldest of four children born to Jorge Flores and the late Maria Teresa Garcia. From a young age, Jorge embraced his role as the eldest sibling with pride and responsibility. He was a natural caretaker, always quick to lend a hand and offer guidance to his younger brothers and sisters, Aroldo (Nora) Garcia, Mayra (Edgar) Garcia, and Ana (Victor) Garcia. His love for his family was boundless, and he took great pride in helping around the house, whether it was cleaning, cooking, or simply being there for his parents and siblings. His selflessness and dedication were the foundation of his relationships with those closest to him.
In 1976, Jorge married the love of his life, Elida Garcia, whom he met in Guatemala. Their connection was immediate, and the two were married on August 14, 1976. Their 47 years of marriage were filled with love, mutual respect, and shared dreams. Together, they raised a son, and their bond remained as strong as ever until the very end. Jorge took immense pride in his role as a father, and raising his son, Jorge V. Garcia, was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was deeply involved in his son's life, always there to offer guidance, support, and love. Whether teaching him valuable life lessons, sharing moments of laughter, or simply being a constant source of stability, Jorge's devotion to his son was evident in everything he did. He treasured the bond they shared and was proud to see the man his son had become. Jorge was a proud grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Kaedence Garcia. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, and from the moment Kaedence was born, she became the light of his life. He doted on her, and she was his "baby girl" and his whole world.
Jorge's journey to the United States began when he was in his early twenties, seeking new opportunities. He was proud of his decision to immigrate, driven by the hope of achieving the American Dream. He and Elida initially settled in Los Angeles, California, before moving to Michigan for work. Throughout his life, Jorge worked tirelessly, and his dedication to his career in the automotive industry as a body shop mechanic was unwavering. He was known for his hands-on expertise, his love of cars—both old and new—and his innate ability to fix almost anything. His favorite phrase was often, "I can fix it," and whether it was repairing cars or attempting to fix electronics (though with occasional leftover parts!), Jorge was always tinkering, always creating, and always finding solutions.
Jorge was not only skilled with his hands, but he was also incredibly creative. He enjoyed remodeling homes, drawing, and sketching, often doodling on any spare piece of paper he could find. His artistic touch and his imaginative spirit were evident in everything he did.
Beyond his technical skills, Jorge was known for his warm and welcoming nature. He was a man who could make anyone feel comfortable, whether they were a friend, family member, or stranger. He was a good listener, a thoughtful advisor, and a constant source of support to those around him. Jorge's generosity and kindness extended well beyond his immediate family. He was a father figure to many and a beloved relative and friend to all who knew him. Jose Benjamin Chacon, a respected uncle, was like a second father to Jorge. Their relationship held a cherished place in Jorge's heart. He was also a loyal and cherished friend to Byron Garcia, Nancy and Gerardo Palomino, and Roberto Gonzalez, with whom he shared deep bonds of mutual respect and care.
Jorge's love for life extended to his hobbies and passions. He was an avid football (soccer) fan, always eager to watch the game or play with friends and family. He also enjoyed the occasional thrill of playing the lottery, always hoping for that little bit of luck. Above all, Jorge loved to travel and experience new places, and he and Elida made countless memories together on their adventures.
Jorge was a beautiful person, both inside and out, with a heart full of love and a spirit full of joy. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as by his extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of hard work, love, creativity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Visitation will be held on Jorge's birthday, Monday, December 30, 2024 1:00 - 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home.
