Jose Guadalupe Cuevas Angel was born on April 5, 1964 in Mexico D.F., Mexico. His parents were Silvino Cuevas Lara and Maria Teresa Angel Coss y Leon, and was the eldest of 7 children. In his younger years, he lived in Mexico City, San Ignacio, and Guadalajara. In Mexico, he worked as an ironworker, carpenter, and as a distributor and wholesaler of fruits and vegetables. Jose was always a lover of baseball and was part of local recreational teams with friends in Mexico. He also loved to swim.
As a young adult, Jose was very involved in his church and was well known in his local Catholic community. He was a volunteer leader of the church youth group. He used his own money to purchase musical instruments for youth. Together they would host events and festivities putting on religious theater plays. Parents of the youth confided in him leading the group, and making sure that they would return home safe.
As a young man, he met his now wife, Lorenza Enciso Alfaro, through her brother Simon Enciso who he was friends with. At age 22 he married Loren on April 21, 1986. Together, they lived in Guadalajara in a home that he himself built. There they birthed three children, Jose Guadalupe Jr. (‘87), Ernesto Fabian (‘91), and Miriam Nohemi (‘93). Later on he became a grandfather to Ethan (‘05), Adriana (‘08), Mia and Eliana (‘24). Being their grandfather brought him an abundance of joy and sharing time with him was one of his favorite things to do.
Together they continued to create a beautiful life together in the U.S.A., eventually settling roots in Detroit and later on in Macomb County. Here he primarily worked as a concrete mason finisher. In conjunction with his wife they delved into residential real estate development, a business and legacy that his wife now continues for their honor. He held a strong pride for his work that allowed him to provide a stable life for his family, as well as persevering from proverty. He was adamant about helping others in any way that he could, extending support to family, friends, and strangers. Regardless of his circumstances, he would go above and beyond to help others.
Jose loved local Detroit sports, especially baseball. He never wanted to miss a Detroit Tigers game, even once he became blind he wouldn’t miss a Detroit Tigers En Español game. He stayed current on local and international politics and news. He loved sharing time with people and telling stories. He always wanted to have a carne asada and being outdoors in nature. He loved music and to dance, his favorites being Los Bukis and Los Cardenales de Nuevo León.
It is a great travesty to all who knew him that he succumbed to health issues that took his life too early at the age of 61. His family and friends morn the loss of his life, and uphold his legacy.
