Joseph E. Vago. Age 89 of Onsted, MI, formerly of Lincoln Park, MI. Born October 2, 1934, passed away on March 7, 2024. Loving husband of the late Diane. Survived by sons Michael, Joseph (Angelica), Scott, Casey, and from a previous marriage, daughters, Debra, Monica, Rebecca, and Lesa. 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also, a brother Norman Vago. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth, and brother Delbert.
He was a decorated 37-year veteran of the Lincoln Park Police Department, starting his career walking a beat and then patrol car duty. While answering a family disturbance he was shot five times, lapsing into a coma. He was not expected to live, but recovered returning to duty nine months later.
He graduated from Madonna University with a four-year degree in Criminal Justice and the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command. Joseph was known for his honesty and integrity. Rising through the ranks, he was elected President of the various police unions within the department. He retired as Chief in 1994.

Funeral Service Friday, March 15, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Solosy Funeral Home.
Interment Michigan Memorial Park.
