Joyce Frances Szabo (Wadlin)

Joyce Szabo peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Sunday morning, July 31st.  This past January, Joyce celebrated her 90 ^th birthday, while living at Cherry Hills Nursing and Rehab in Westland, Michigan, where she has been the past 2 ½ years.  Joyce grew up on Wilson Street in Lincoln Park and she along with her family remained in the area all their life.  After high school Joyce began working at Great Lakes Steel as an Administrative Assistant and retired from there in 1985.  She was active in the ladies' social club from work, where you would regularly find her bowling during the week and golfing in the summer.  Joyce married late in life to Louis Szabo whom she survived and has one stepdaughter Cindy Demaught residing in the Phoenix area.  Together, Louis and Joyce loved to travel and take in the various events throughout the city of Detroit.

If you were to talk to Joyce, she would tell you she has no children, but that wouldn't stop her from sharing about how proud she was of her "favorite nephew" Chris Boudreau, who was also raised in Lincoln Park, but now lives in the Denver area with his wife Eleanor, and they have 3 grown children.  Well known for exuding kindness and grace, Joyce gained her greatest fulfillment in serving at First Baptist Church on Fort St.  She was an active member, faithfully teaching Sunday School to children grades 1-3, served on various committees, and loved to fill in as the church receptionist whenever needed.  Her warmth and gentle spirit will be sorely missed.

We welcome you to a time of Visitation on Thursday, August 4 ^th from 3pm-6pm at the John K. Solosy Funeral Home 3206 Fort Street, Lincoln Park. There will be a private burial on Friday at Parkview Cemetery.
