Kathleen Jo Blaszczyk

March 23, 1956 — April 24, 2026

Lincoln Park

Kathleen Jo Blaszczyk (“Kathy”), age 70, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. Born on March 23, 1956, Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Hedwig Marian Malecki.

Kathy lived a life centered on love, family, and deep connection with those around her. A lifelong Catholic, she attended Catholic school in her youth and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life, becoming an active and cherished member of St. Andre Bessette Parish in Ecorse. She was especially involved with the parish Women’s Guild and gave generously of her time and talents to support church life and community events.

On December 26, 1987, Kathy married the love of her life, Daniel Valentine Blaszczyk. The two met while working together at the produce terminal, where their love story first blossomed. Their marriage was one of devotion and partnership, and Kathy remained faithfully by Danny’s side, serving as his caregiver throughout his eight-year battle with cancer—a true testament to her strength, loyalty, and unwavering love. From this loving union came Kathy’s pride and joy, her dearest son Jacob Edward Blaszczyk. She was a true champion for Jake and cared for him with all her being until she had to lay him to rest in 2022.

Kathy is survived by her cherished granddaughter, Sadie Blaszczyk, who was truly the center of her world; her daughter-in-law, Denise Zanke; her sister, Christine; her nephew, Nicholas (Jody) Blaszczyk; and her great-nieces and nephews, Landon, Palmer, and Savannah. She is also remembered fondly by her dear friends Laurie Preece and Cindy Swek, her lifelong best friend of 63 years. Cindy fondly remembers the good, clean fun they had as girls; how they loved to dance together and listen to music; treasured neighbors Pat Korycinski and Warren Miller; and her close-knit “hockey mom” family, including Michele Kozuh and Michelle Sturm.

Kathy had a gift for bringing people together. Known affectionately as the “hostess with the mostest,” she loved entertaining, cooking, and creating warm, welcoming spaces for family and friends. She found joy in shopping, talking on the phone for hours, listening to music, watching movies, and—famously—supporting QVC with enthusiasm. Her generous spirit was evident in her love of giving gifts and making others feel special.

Her passions extended into her community life, where she was deeply involved as a hockey mom, forming lasting friendships and even traveling to Russia in support of her son’s hockey pursuits. She and Danny also hosted Christmas dinners and participated in the Mt. Carmel Polish festivals over the years. Kathy loved to travel and enjoyed time spent at her Florida condo, embracing life with an adventurous spirit. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved German Shepherd, Bob, who brought her much companionship and joy.

Above all, Kathy’s greatest joy was her granddaughter Sadie. Whether it was school events, activities, or special moments, Kathy was always there—her presence unwavering, her love unconditional.

Kathy will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, vibrant personality, and the deep love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
