Kathryn Emma Silagi

July 8, 1939 — November 3, 2023

Midlothian

The family of Kathryn Emma Silagi is saddened to announce her passing on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Beloved wife of Stephen Silagi. Loving mother of Stephen Jr. and Michelle Hendricks.

Kathryn was born on July 8, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Henry Kopp and the late Emma (Hendricks) Kopp. She was the 5th of 9 children. Kathy leaves behind memories of life with her siblings Gloria Rojewski, Carl Kopp, and George Kopp. She was preceded in death by her brothers Henry Kopp, Kenneth Kopp and Gerald Kopp and sisters Irene Conrad and Sueanne Holbird.

Kathy was married to her husband Stephen for 52 years. Their paths crossed while working at Kroger and in February 1971, Stephen and Kathy were married. They had two beautiful children, Steve and Michelle. In 1976, they moved their family to Colorado and then finally settled in Virginia in 2014.

In Colorado, she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children in her community. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at her church, head of the PTA, a coach, a den mother, and always a willing mentor to youth in need. This led her to a career helping children while working for the State of Colorado, Division of Child Care services, throughout a distinguished career spanning over 30 years, during which she also managed to earn her Associates Degree while working full time, along with all of her volunteer work.

Spending time in the fresh air out amongst the beauty of nature was something Kathy loved dearly. She found pleasure in going on long walks, especially with her Labrador retriever, Kody. Every moment she could Kathy hopped in the car or on a plane to travel. Her favorite vacation spot was Hawaii. She was always up for an adventure, whether it was walking on a glacier in Alaska, strolling on the beaches of California and Hawaii, flying over Arizona in a hot air balloon, going to see the Rockettes in New York City, or seeing the cherry blossoms bloom in Washington. At home, her passion and love of nature led her to creating her own sliver of paradise by tending her beautiful flower gardens.

Kathy enjoyed life to the fullest. In addition to her travels, she loved to crochet, play board games, read, and prepare for holidays. Kathy was an avid reader. Some of her favorite literature to read was romance novels, Christian literature, and her Bible. Holidays were always a special time because she was able to surround herself with family. Christmas was by far her favorite and there would often be Christmas decorations left up throughout her house all year long.

Kathy always had a positive outlook on life, even when she had endured struggles with her health over the years. Through it all, Kathy continued to thrive and keep a positive outlook on life. Her smile would light up the room on the darkest of days. Her willingness to help anyone when they needed help or guidance was built into the fabric of who she was. Kathy loved to laugh and was known for her quick wit and ability to make any situation better for others through her calm words and spirit.

Kathy will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her.
