Kathryn Jo Smydo

Kathryn Jo Smydo, born in Detroit on March 9, 1951, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025. Kathy was a graduate of Lincoln Park High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Madonna University. She became a nurse after her time in the Air Force but ultimately decided to return to teaching. She was a devoted educator who found joy and fulfillment in teaching and inspiring her students. Her love of people and education extended to the work she did at Greenfield Village in Dearborn. She was always excited for the annual Halloween and Holiday Nights celebrations and cherished the many years she spent in the weaving shop. Kathryn was a dear friend to many and deeply cherished the time she spent with her family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 5, 2025, at St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Riverview at 10:00 AM with Father Marc Gawronski presiding. She will lie instate at the church beginning at 9:30 AM. Following Mass, Kathryn will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock.

Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
