It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kim DeMatteo, who left us on May 30, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on January 9, 1958, Kim was a beacon of strength, resilience, and unwavering love, cherished deeply by her family and friends.
Kim is survived by her beloved daughter, Nereida Montero-Diaz, who inherited her mother's strong will and indomitable spirit. She was a devoted grandmother to Ottaviano Montero-Herrera, Ja'den Perdue-Henderson, and Gionni Torres, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also remembered by her loving mother, Philomena DeMatteo, and her brothers, Keith DeMatteo and Kent DeMatteo.
A proud graduate of Holy Redeemer, Kim's life was marked by her 16 years of sobriety, a testament to her determination and resilience. Her involvement with the Downriver Alano Club was a reflection of her commitment to helping others and staying true to her path of recovery. Many lifelong friendships were made there and those who knew Kim will treasure her in their hearts.
Kim had an unwavering faith, and her love for the Church was a cornerstone of her life. She was known for her generous heart, always ready to help anyone in need, often ready to give the shirt off her back. Her fiery spirit and tenacity earned her the affectionate nickname "Firecracker," and she never backed down from standing up for what she believed in.
She found joy in music, the outdoors, and particularly loved suntanning and being by the water. Her favorite times were spent surrounded by her grandchildren and at church, where she found peace and solace. Kim will be dearly missed by her best friends, Vicki, Robyn, and Patty, who cherished her vibrant spirit and unwavering friendship.
Nereida fondly recalls, "Whenever I needed my mom the most, she was always there." This sentiment encapsulates Kim's essence—ever-present, ever-supportive, and deeply loving.
Kim DeMatteo's legacy is one of strength, care, and an unyielding spirit. She touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
