Larry George Tar

November 6, 1947 — September 28, 2024

Larry George Tar, aged 76, passed away on September 28, 2024. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 6, 1947, to the late Julius and Thelma Tar, Larry was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his siblings Jay (Sandra) Tar and Dianne (the late Tom) Williams. Larry was a loving uncle to Amy (Chris), Lisa (Kurt), Jason (Betsy), Laura (Mark), and Sara (Rob). He also leaves behind five great-nephews and three great-nieces who cherished their time with him.

Larry served his country with honor as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication earned him great respect from his fellow servicemen. He remained proud of his service throughout his life.

A devoted Detroit Red Wings fan, Larry's love for hockey and baseball began in his youth and continued throughout his life. His passion for sports was matched by his love of music, especially the "good" country music he introduced to his nieces and nephews, with one of his favorite artists being the legendary Waylon Jennings.

Larry's nieces and nephews hold fond memories of their time with him as children, recalling many adventures and shared moments filled with joy and laughter. He was a constant presence in their lives during those early years, and his influence will be deeply missed.

In addition to his family, Larry was blessed to have the unwavering support of his dear friend and neighbor Barb, along with her family, who helped care for him over the years.

Larry will be laid to rest with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 9:30 AM. His legacy of kindness, service, and love for family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Rest in peace, Larry. Semper Fi.
