It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lee Roy Roberts, who departed this life on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 76. Born in Barbourville, Kentucky, on October 26, 1948, Lee was the cherished son of Rufus Roberts and Zola Peters (Helton).

Lee's life was a story of dedication, love, and laughter. As a young man seeking opportunity, he traveled to Detroit, Michigan, where fate led him to the dry cleaners where Dorothy, his future wife, worked. Dorothy, smitten with potential, told the owner to hire him—and the rest was history. Lee became their delivery driver, and soon, their love story began. Married for decades, their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with joy, family, and countless cherished memories.

Lee was the proud and devoted father of Patricia Roberts-Gross (Thomas Gross), Elizabeth Roberts (Bethany Hopkins), and Caroline Naumowicz (Craig Naumowicz). He adored his family and delighted in every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his siblings Ricky Peters (Rhonda Peters), Charles Roberts, and James Peters Jr., as well as beloved family member Rita Roberts. Preceding him in death were his siblings Beige Roberts, Harold Roberts, Edith Fuston, Frieda Roberts, and Arthur "Pete" Roberts. Lee also treasured his friendships, especially with Don Jameson and the late Ron Murphy. Among his companions, Pugsley the cat held a special place in his heart.

A talented and skilled tradesman, Lee spent much of his career painting and finishing. He had a natural ability to paint flawless lines without taping off a room, and his precision and craftsmanship became legendary.  A strong union supporter, he served as Treasurer of the Painters Union and later worked for the Detroit School Board. Even after semi-retirement, his passion for his trade kept him painting houses and businesses until just a few years before his passing.

Lee was a man of many hobbies and quirks that made him unforgettable. He was a euchre enthusiast who reveled in the challenge of a good hand. Ever the jokester, he'd pretend to have poor eyesight until a game of pool began—then his sharp skills would shine, leaving everyone in awe. He was a pool shark who raised his daughters with the same competitive spirit, as evidenced by Trish outshooting an opponent, he graciously sent her way. Lee had a deep passion for classic cars, a love he joyfully shared with his daughter Liz. She fondly remembers moments spent in the garage, learning from her dad as he tinkered with engines and restored vintage beauties. Together, they bonded over the hum of tools and the smell of motor oil, as Lee patiently passed down his knowledge of the cars he cherished so much.

Lee loved road trips to his beloved Kentucky, savoring the drive through the mountains. He had a sweet tooth for 3 Musketeers bars, and often enjoyed alongside a scratch-off lottery ticket. Evenings on the porch, watching the world go by, were among his favorite pastimes. He will forever be remembered for his hearty laugh, warm smile (passed down to his daughter Liz), and playful sense of humor.

Lee had a deep devotion to his family, and his love for Dorothy and his daughters was boundless and unwavering. Throughout life he took immense pride in their successes and supported them in times of personal growth too. In moments of hardship, Lee's resilience and love for his family stood out. Even while deeply ill, he ensured he walked Caroline down the aisle on her wedding day, saying, "Nothing will make me miss this moment."

Lee leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and laughter. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his impact will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Rest in peace, Lee Roy Roberts. Your humor, dedication, and love have left an indelible mark on this world.

Lee's cremation is taking place in the care of Solosy Funeral Home.
