Leo Joseph Tamoshunas

With heavy hearts, the family of Leo Joseph Tamoshunas announces his passing on June 15, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on December 19, 1951, Leo was the beloved son of the late Joseph and June and spent nearly his entire life in Allen Park, Michigan, in the very home where he was raised.

A proud graduate of Allen Park High School's Class of 1970, Leo was known throughout his life as a dedicated and hardworking man. He built a successful career at Dearborn Sausage, where he worked his way to becoming Production Manager. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gloria. Their workplace friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on January 31, 1991. Together they shared 35 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, family adventures, and countless cherished memories.

Leo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria; his son, Ryan, and stepson Eric (Meghan); and his treasured grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, and Phoebe, who each brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, JoAnn.

To know Leo was to know a man who genuinely enjoyed people. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Throughout his life, he developed many lasting friendships and was always ready to share a story or lend a helping hand. Friends and family could always count on Leo to tell them exactly what he thought with honest conviction, often sparking lively conversations.

Some of Leo's greatest passions centered around the outdoors. He loved everything about boating and spent countless summer days waterskiing, jet skiing, cruising the lake, and enjoying time at the family's cottage. Summer meant being outdoors, surrounded by family and friends, taking part in every water sport possible. When winter arrived, Leo traded the boat for a snowmobile and looked forward to adventures in the snow. He was also an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time on the course whenever he could.

Music was another lifelong love. Leo was a talented drummer whose passion for rhythm began early and remained with him throughout his life. He shared his musical gifts by playing for church services and special events and was especially proud of the opportunity to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Whether behind a drum set or simply singing along to his beloved tunes, music was always a source of joy in his life.

Community played an important role in Leo's journey. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, where he generously gave his time and talents and enjoyed serving at church festivals and events. Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus Allen Park Council #3774, where he diligently served in helping meet the needs of his community. He was also deeply involved with Allen Park Boy Scout Troop #1061 alongside his family for many years, creating memories and relationships that would last a lifetime.

In recent years, Leo faced the challenges of Parkinson's disease with remarkable strength and determination. Although the disease brought difficulties, it never diminished his spirit or his desire to fully embrace life. He continued to find joy in the things he loved and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those closest to him. This past spring, one of his greatest joys was being back on a boat with his family, enjoying the water that had always held such a special place in his heart.

Leo's legacy is one of hard work, faith, friendship, and love for family. He will be remembered for his welcoming smile, his gift for conversation, his devotion to those he loved, and his unwavering appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Solosy Funeral Home, Lincoln Park. Rosary Prayer Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a time of Memory Sharing to follow.

Instate will be on Saturday, June 20, 2026 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Taylor.
