Leslie John Torok, known to family and friends as John, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, at the age of 93. His passing occurred on a poignant day, as it marked the 63rd anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Rosemarie Torok (Nagy), with whom he shared a beautiful, devoted life together.
John was the proud father of John Leslie Tungl. He and Rosemarie also had three sons; the late Leslie John Torok Jr., who passed at the age of 62, Paul Joseph Torok, who passed at the age of 56, and Michael Albert Torok, age 54. He was a cherished grandfather to Jessica, Sarah, Taylor, Summer, Austin, Alyssa, Tate, and Johnene, and a loving great-grandfather to Madeline, Sage, and Indigo.
A dedicated member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park, John and Rosemarie found joy in their service and the friendships they built within the congregation. Together, they created lifelong bonds with their church family and neighbors, friendships that spanned decades and brought warmth and joy into their lives.
Born in Hungary, John's adventurous spirit led him to learn to fly a glider in his youth and eventually learning to fly airplanes. Despite facing pressure from the Russian military to enlist, John's determination and courage allowed him to escape Europe and start anew in the United States. There, he worked tirelessly to create a better future for his family, instilling in them a deep sense of love, perseverance, and passion.
John was a man of many talents and interests. In his younger years, he dreamed of becoming an inventor and even attempted to create a more efficient sausage maker. His love for tinkering and working with his hands stayed with him throughout his life. He was known as an exceptional cook and was often called upon by his church to make sausage for various events. His family gatherings were incomplete without his famous "Hungarian Pizza," a bacon roast that was a family favorite.
In addition to his culinary skills, John was a part-owner of Andy's Tackle Box, a local fishing supply store, where he shared his love for fishing and the outdoors. He also found peace and satisfaction in his garden, spending countless hours tending to his plants and enjoying the beauty of nature.
John's life was a testament to hard work, love for his family, and dedication to his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and those whose lives he touched over his 93 remarkable years.
