Mark Matthew Marcell Cauchi

Mark Matthew Marcell Cauchi passed away on September 11, 2026, at the age of 27. Born on July 18, 1999, in Detroit, Michigan, Mark was the beloved son of Mark Cauchi and Dawn Okopski.

Mark had a big personality and an even bigger presence. He was the kind of person you knew was in the room, and for those who knew and loved him, that presence could make everything seem a little lighter. His family remembers that Mark could pick you up simply by walking through the door. He loved to laugh, joke around, do impersonations, and occasionally demonstrate what he believed to be his “impressive singing ability”.

But beneath all of that personality was someone who cared deeply. Mark believed in loyalty. If he gave you his word, he meant it. If you were his friend, he had your back. His word was gold, and when Mark said he would be there, he followed through. He worked hard, cared fiercely for the people in his life, and was always willing to show up for someone who needed him.

Above everything else, family was most important to Mark. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, Sofia Ann Marie and Enzo Matthew, whom he loved beyond measure. He shared his life with his beloved fiancée, Anelise Andrews, and treasured being surrounded by his extended family.

Mark is also survived by his loving parents, Mark Cauchi and Dawn (Jerame) Okopski; his dear brother, Joseph (Krista) Prush; his sweet nieces and nephew, Ella, Emma, and Alexander; his dearest grandmother, Catherine (the late Joseph) Prush; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paulu Marcell Cauchi and Shirley Ann Cauchi.

Among those especially close to Mark was his cousin and best friend, Devin Jones. Their relationship went well beyond being cousins—they shared the kind of friendship and bond that becomes part of a person’s life story.

From childhood, Mark loved cars, especially hot rods, along with playing football and basketball. More recently, he was especially excited to have his grandfather’s 1972 El Camino up and running, something that meant a great deal to him. He was also a fan of The Sopranos, enjoyed drawing, and was a talented artist. Whether he was working on something, making someone laugh with an impersonation, talking cars, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Mark brought his own unmistakable personality to it.

Mark was a hardworking concrete finisher and a member of Laborers’ Local Union 1191. He took pride in hard work and in being someone others could depend upon.

Mark also loved his dogs, Chubbs, his pit terrier mix, and his late pit bull mix, Nero, who held a special place in his heart.

Twenty-seven years was far too short for a life that touched so many people. Mark will be remembered not simply for the years he lived, but for the relationships he built within them: as a father, fiancé, son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, coworker, and friend. Those who knew him will remember his big personality, his humor, his loyalty, his love of family, and the certainty that when Mark cared about you, he cared about you completely.

Visitation will take place Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park. A funeral service honoring Mark’s life will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Following the services, Mark will be laid to rest at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.

Mark’s life will continue to be remembered in his children, in his family, in the stories his friends will tell, and in all those who were fortunate enough to experience the loyalty, laughter, and larger-than-life personality that made Mark uniquely Mark.
