Matthew John Boufford

Matthew John Boufford, of Melvindale, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on November 9, 1961, in Dearborn, Michigan, Matthew lived a life marked by faith, kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for the people who surrounded him.

Matthew was the beloved son of the late Donald Clement Boufford and the late Matilda Patricia (Kavesansky) Boufford. He spent his early childhood in Detroit before making Melvindale his longtime home, where he built lasting friendships and became known for his warm heart and welcoming personality.

A lifelong learner, Matthew graduated from Melvindale High School with the Class of 1979 before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1992. His determination and commitment to education later led him to fulfill a lifelong goal when he graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2000.

Matthew was a devoted brother to Michael (Betty) Boufford, Cynthia (Steven) Buchman, and Mark (Wendy) Boufford. He was a proud and loving uncle to Blake, Scott (Perla), Brysen, Eric, Lauren, Alexa, Alexandra, Brevin, Bradyn, and Ava, and a cherished great-uncle to Benjamin, Emily, and Claire. He also leaves behind his dear friends Darrell, Chris, and Nick, along with many extended family members and countless friends who were blessed by his friendship.

Those who knew Matthew will remember his vibrant personality and his ability to make every gathering more joyful. Holiday celebrations were among his favorite times of the year, and he was often the life of the party, bringing laughter, conversation, and a contagious enthusiasm wherever he went. His kind and outgoing spirit made everyone feel welcome, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Helpful to a fault, Matthew never hesitated to put others before himself.

Matthew found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of rock music and loved attending concerts, creating memories with friends through the music he enjoyed. He faithfully participated in a weekly golf league, where friendships flourished both on and off the course. At home, he found peace tending to his garden and took pride in preparing favorite recipes for those he loved. Whether sharing a meal, working in the yard, or enjoying time with family and friends, Matthew treasured every opportunity to be with the people who mattered most.

Above all else, Matthew's life was rooted in his faith. He possessed a deep love for God and was a devoted member of his church. His faith guided the way he treated others—with compassion, humility, and genuine love—and served as the foundation upon which he lived his life. His family and friends were among his greatest blessings, and he loved them deeply.

Matthew's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. His memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be deeply missed until the day they are reunited.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park. Following the visitation, family and friends will travel in procession to Holy Cross Hungarian Catholic Church in Detroit, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.

Following the Mass, the procession will continue to Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown Township, where Matthew will be laid to rest.
