Mavis Valorey Salus

April 18, 1932 — May 7, 2024

Mavis Valorey Salus, a cherished wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and adored great-grandmother, passed away on May 7, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on April 18, 1932, in Brisbane, Australia, to the late Edward and Violet Ross, Mavis was one of four siblings, alongside her dear sister Bernie and the late Jack and Norma.

Mavis found her loving companion in the late Howard Salus, whom she lovingly supported as his devoted wife. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Mavis's legacy lives on through her children: Penny Cilento, Gigi (Wendy) Cilento, Abby (Rob) Alpers, the late Naomi Cilento, Ben (Harley) Cilento, Adrienne Cilento, Lori (Gregg) Kleiner, and Penny (Jared) Rubin.

Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life: Ilan (Hilit), Sean (Andrea), Naomi (Todd), Alexi (Ti), Quinn, Owen, Imran, Maya, Matt, Ally, and Heather. Mavis was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren: Micah, Diana, Willow, Sol, Romi, Dan, and Uri, each holding a special place in her heart.

Mavis found great fulfillment in her career as an editor and publisher at Entertainment News & Views, a role she embraced with passion and dedication. Her commitment to excellence was evident in her three retirements, a testament to her love for her work and the industry.

Despite facing challenges and loss throughout her life, Mavis's resilience and strength shone brightly. Her greatest accomplishments included not only raising her children but also overcoming adversity to lead a life filled with happiness and purpose.

A true lover of the arts, Mavis found solace in music, particularly the piano, and cherished evenings spent attending plays and listening to orchestras. She held a special admiration for the talent of singer and actor Mario Lanza, whose performances brought her great joy.

Mavis's adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, with a particular fondness for the ocean and the beauty of nature. Her home was always filled with the love and companionship of her cherished pets, whom she adored.

Renowned for her affections for all things sweet, Mavis was affectionately known as the "Cookie Monster" for her love of cookies, cakes, and her undeniable weakness for chocolate. Her warm presence, storytelling prowess, and infectious laughter brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Above all, Mavis's greatest love was reserved for her family, whom she cherished above all else. Her life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we mourn the loss of Mavis Valorey Salus, we celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength. Though words cannot fully capture the impact she had on those around her, her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
