With great love and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Melvin Clarence LaBelle announces his passing on August 22, 2025, at the age of 82. Melvin was born on February 12, 1943, in Monroe, Michigan, to the late Robert LaBelle and Garnet (Arquette) LaBelle.
Melvin was a man whose heart and soul were rooted in family, faith, and kindness. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Veronica "Vera" Mary Quinn, with whom he built a home filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering love. Their bond was strong, marked by deep affection, shared memories, and simple yet profound traditions—like Vera's nightly words to him, "Sleep with the Angels."
He was the proud father of Toni (Chet) Merta, Rob LaBelle, Yvette (Dan) Conrado, Amy (Scott) Aston, Tom (Tammy) Pitock, and Brian (Robyn) Pitock, and his love only grew as he became a cherished grandfather to Christian, CJ, Heather, Chris, Roger, Clayton, Bronson, Sarah, Weston, Ethan, Anna, Nick, Max, Ashlee, Sierra, Bryson, Aaron, Alex, and Lauren. His joy multiplied again as he welcomed great-grandchildren: Everly, Nolan, Myra, Evan, Bennett, Owen, Peyton, Mason, Quinn, River, and Dawson.
Melvin was preceded in death by his sisters Theresa Dicks, Barbara Flint, and Juanita (Soupy) Kominek, and is survived by his brother Louis LaBelle, with whom he shared a particularly close bond in his later years. Their time together was a treasured gift, and Louis's presence was a source of comfort and joy in Melvin's final days.
A true sports enthusiast, Melvin was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings. Whether watching a game or talking stats, he delighted in being a part of the excitement of Michigan sports. His favorite saying, spoken often and with love, was, "You're not my son/daughter because you're mine; you're mine because you shine."
Known as an amazing, sweet, and hardworking man, Melvin never had a bad word to say about anyone. His gentle spirit and steady nature made him a friend to all. He was devoted to his family above all else and loved nothing more than time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, boundless love, and simple wisdom.
A private memorial gathering will be held where family will gather to celebrate his life and legacy.
Though Melvin has departed this earthly life, his memory will shine brightly in the hearts of those he loved. His kindness, humor, and gentle presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
