Michael Thomas Wood Sr., age 55, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Born on February 14, 1969, to Mary Ann Wood and the late Karl Duane Wood, Mike was the beloved middle child of three. He shared a close bond with his siblings, Greg (Kimberly) Wood and Jodi Wood-Bailey.
Though Mike's heart was forever shaped by the loss of his dear wife, Kathleen Ann Carney-Wood, who passed away on August 7, 2001, their love remained a guiding force in his life. The two were united in marriage on June 4, 1994, and their connection was truly something special—a partnership built on love, respect, and laughter.
Above all, Mike was a proud and devoted father to Michael Thomas Wood Jr., Maggie (Adam Cain) Wood, and Amanda Lynn Rinesmith. His children brought him the greatest happiness, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether enjoying quiet evenings or celebrating during the holidays. He will also be dearly missed by his grand-dog, Penny, who was always greeted with affection.
Mike's memory will be treasured by his nieces and nephews—Kayla & Mark Gordon, Alexander Wood, Carissa Wood—and his great-niece, Zoe, who brought him much joy.
Growing up in Saginaw, Michigan, Mike had a full and adventurous childhood. He enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout and immersed himself in his love for Dungeons and Dragons. He also developed a lifelong passion for sports, particularly football. After graduating from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1987, Mike attended Michigan Tech University. As a proud member of Beta Sigma Theta, he earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, embarking on a fulfilling career in the steel industry, where he became a dedicated Section Manager.
Mike's generosity and humor were some of his most endearing qualities. He had a unique ability to make those around him laugh and feel at ease. He was a man who believed in God, loved his family, had a strong will, and was immensely generous and thoughtful. Mike was an avid golfer, enjoying time on the course with his dad. He also loved traveling, particularly on cruises. Mike had a special place in his heart for animals and for watching wildlife. He would regularly feed the neighborhood squirrels from his window. A lover of bargains, Mike never missed an opportunity to find a good deal while shopping, and he enjoyed countless hours watching movies and playing video games.
Michael Thomas Wood Sr. will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched with his warmth, generosity, and infectious laughter.
