Richard Patrick Gutowski

It is with deep sorrow we mourn the passing of Richard Patrick Gutowski, of Lincoln Park, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the age of 86 years.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret Gutowski. Dearest father of Joseph (Deborah) Gutowski. Loving grandfather of Adam Gutowski. Special companion of Sophie Solecki.

Richard was born on February 12, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a resident of the city until 1988. Almost half of those years in Detroit were dedicated to public service as a member of the Detroit Police Department. Richard held many different posts in the deparment and ended his career as a Sergeant after 25 years of service. Upon retirement, Richard and his family moved to Lincoln Park where he lived for the rest of his life.

Richard was a simple man but the things he loved...he loved with a passion. He was a lover of all animals, but especially dogs.  He enjoyed morning coffee. The aroma would greet him every morning and it was the best way to start the day. Richard could often be found at White Castle. A guilty pleasure for many; those sliders just seem to hit the spot. He also enjoyed a Black Russian. It was his drink of choice and a great way to wind down at the end of the day. More than anything, Richard loved his family and treasured the time he could spend with them.

Richard will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ASPCA or Michigan Human Society.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

Inurnment at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, Michigan to take place following cremation.
