Richard Joseph Suessine Sr.

Richard Joseph Suessine Sr., of Riverview, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and hardworking provider, Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Born on July 30, 1943, in Taylor, Michigan, Richard was the son of Anthony Carl Suessine Sr. and Frances V. (Guscinski) Suessine. Proud of his Italian and Polish heritage, he carried with him a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for family throughout his life.

Richard honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 until 1964. His military service instilled in him discipline, resilience, and a quiet sense of pride that remained with him throughout his life.

On September 28, 1965, Richard married the love of his life, Patricia Lee Vargo. Together they built a loving home and shared more than six decades of marriage filled with devotion, family, and countless cherished memories.

Following his military service, Richard dedicated more than 40 years to Ford Motor Company, where he worked in the skilled trades as an HVAC technician. He took great pride in his work and was known as someone who wasn't afraid of hard work, always providing for those he loved and ensuring his family had everything they needed.

Above all else, Richard treasured time with his family. Whether traveling together, casting a fishing line, heading into the woods for deer hunting season, or simply enjoying a meal at home, he found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid bowler for many years, spending countless evenings at Ford Lanes on Van Born and Oakwood Blue Jackets Bowling Alley in Southwest Detroit. He also had a special place in his heart for every pet the family welcomed into their home over the years.

Richard was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling stories, making people laugh, and sharing a good joke whenever he had the chance. Friends and family will remember him as a dependable provider, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; someone who always enjoyed good food—especially anything Pat prepared for him, with one notable exception: liver and onions.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his daughter, Angela Baran. He was preceded in death by his dear son, Richard Joseph Suessine Jr. He is loving remembered by his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Baran, Jerry Baran III, and Brianna Suessine; his brother, Anthony Suessine II; his brother Jerry (Kathy) Suessine; his sister, Sandy Taggie; along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will take place on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Solosy Funeral Home, in Lincoln Park with a Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with family and friends asked to meet at the front gate of Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown.
