Rusty Todd Smith

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Rusty Todd Smith on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the age of 58 years.

Beloved husband of Patti Smith. Loving father of Todd (Danielle) Smith, Rusty Smith, and Shannon Smith. Proud grandfather of Carter Smith, Cameron Smith, Emmalynn Smith, and Addisyn Smith.

Rusty was born on February 5, 1965, to the late John and Patricia Smith. Dearest brother of the late Mark Smith, Joel Smith, Jeff Smith, and Jason Smith. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rusty and Patti met in 1981 and have been with each other ever since. Though their relationship might have had its ups and downs, they were always committed to each other and their family. In fact, family was everything to Rusty. He would do anything for them. He loved his family and sacrificed greatly for them. Rusty was a simple man and was never interested in getting many things for himself but was always quick to make sure his children had what they needed and wanted. Rusty was also extremely proud of his grandchildren. He would talk about them for hours on end and never tired of discussing how thrilled he was to be their grandfather.

After High School, Rusty attended trade school and became a journeyman electrician. Over the years he worked on many different projects such as Comerica Park in Detroit. When he wasn't working, Rusty enjoyed spending time camping and kayaking with his family. He also loved coaching baseball and wrestling. Rusty enjoyed many pastimes but two were his favorites. He was quite a prolific softball player and was a coveted asset for any team on which he played. If you knew Rusty, you know he loved to argue and debate. He knew his mind and loved taking on the challenge of another's viewpoint.

Rusty will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023, beginning at 12:00 PM until the Memorial Service at 7:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home.
