It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley May Mullins on November 1, 2025, at the age of 87.
Shirley May King Mullins was born on Valentine's Day 1938, in the mountains and hollers of St. Charles, VA. She was the daughter of Felix and Addie King. Shirley was the middle child of 12. Shirley worked as a waitress in Pennington Gap, VA, where she met Gene Mullins. Big Gene fell in love with her at first sight. Gene told his mother, "I'm going to marry her." Gene and Shirley got married in 1962.
Gene and Shirley had two children, Ronnie and Connie. Gene and Shirley moved to Michigan for work. Shirley was blessed with three grandchildren — Michael, Juanito, and Karysma — and five great-grandchildren — Julie, Zander, Lena, RJ, and Jameson.
Shirley is survived by two sisters, Fay Ray of Richmond, KY, and Marie Burke of Jonesville, VA. Shirley lost Big Gene in 2009 and has missed him every day since.
Shirley worked at Admiral Chrome for 22 years. Shirley was in charge of the shipping department. Shirley loved to cook for her family and BBQ with her friends.
Shirley was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — and a good friend to many. Shirley was loved and cherished by her family and friends and is going to be dearly missed.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home, where a Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 PM.
