Terrance Michael Martin passed away at the age of 73.
Born on July 28, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, Terrance was the beloved son of Nathaniel Martin and Mary Theresa (Fitzgerald) Martin. He grew up in Detroit and attended Holy Redeemer HS and went on to build a life marked by hard work, and a passion for the things he loved.
In 1972, Terrance married the love of his life, Deborah. Together they shared decades of marriage, friendship, and countless memories before her passing in 2018. Their enduring bond remained an important part of his life and legacy. A dedicated family man at the centre of that was his absolute rock Deborah, the light of his life, that had many wishes when they both retired to enjoy life at their favorite holiday destination - Aruba and of course Shipshewana, where their love for homemade pies and antiques grew through the years.
Terrance was a proud father to his beautiful daughter Theresa Martin whom he watched grow with endless admiration, and lovingly welcomed son-in-law Simon Dent into the family.
Terrance is also survived by his only brother, Michael Martin from Lexington MI and in-laws Tony and Denise Dent from Wakefield, UK. many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his cherished grand-dog, Shelby, a Golden Doodle who brought him much joy and laughter.
For 35 years, Terrance dedicated himself to serving the City of Detroit. Known for his strong work ethic and remarkable handyman skills, he was the person family and friends could always count on to fix just about anything. He was a true Detroiter through and through, for him working for the City of Detroit wasn’t just a job, it was a calling, he loved the history, grit, soul of the city, but he also loved the people. With a lifelong passion for automobiles, especially hot rods and Mustangs. He loved working on cars, modifying them, and sharing that enthusiasm with others. A talented bowler, he spent many enjoyable hours on the lanes and formed lasting friendships through the sport.
When he wasn't working on a car, or bowling, he could often be found enjoying the sunshine. He loved getting a golden tan and spending time near the water, listening to the music of The Beach Boys, whose songs perfectly matched his easygoing love of summer.
One memory that always brought a smile was Simon's first meeting with Terrance during the summer months, then in his mid-sixties, was sporting blonde highlights—an unforgettable introduction that captured his fun-loving personality and willingness to do things his own way.
Terrance will be remembered for his resourcefulness and sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the memories he created, and the example he set through a life well lived.
An Irish Heart with a Detroit Soul, a man whose laughter could fill a room and whose pride in his Irish heritage was as unmistakable as his love for the Motor City.
Terrance has raised his final glass, and would want everybody to know, that his coworkers were his second family, he built bonds that outlasted the time clock, leaving behind a legacy of camaraderie, mentorship and countless laughs.
One Final Toast
Terrance was never one for somber goodbyes. He believed life was meant to be celebrated, stories were meant to be shared, and Irish eyes should always be smiling.
In accordance with his final wishes, there will be no heavy grieving allowed without a drink in hand. His family asks that everyone who knew and loved him raise a glass of Crown Royal whisky in his honor.
As you take a sip, smile and think of a fond, funny, or mischievous memory you shared with Terrance. May the road rise to meet him, and may his memory live on in every laugh we share.
