William "Bill" Frank Wein, 72, of Southgate, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
Beloved husband of Laura Wright. Loving father of Danielle Wein, Daniel Brown, Sabrina Wright, Adam Wright, the late Michael Wright. Dearest grandfather of Makenzie Brown, Izzy Brown, the late Caine Gunthrie, the late Austin Gunthrie, Alex Wright, Sophia Ferris, Kaylee Minard, Alyssa Wright, Michael Wright, Emmett Wright, and Josiah Gibbs. Proud great-grandfather of Ellie Gunthrie, Aiden Gunthrie, Addy Gunthrie, and Ian Gunthrie. Dear son of the late Louella and the late Francis Wein, step-son of Martin Gross, and half-brother of Jill Lusk and Jack Scheoborn. Loving uncle of Wendy and Todd, whom he cared for immensely. Bill will be forever remembered by his extended family Jessica Minard, Geoff Bearden, Christina Gibbs, Jamie Gonyaw, Sarah, and Daniel. He will be fondly missed by his best friend Pat Klien.
Bill loved his family. He began as an only child, but throughout the years he formed relationships that became a large extended family. He was always there to help his friends and family; through the good and the bad times. Bill cared greatly about the things that were happening in everyone's world and was always ready to speak the truth to people. Though his voice might have come across loudly at times; he was truly devoted to caring for the feelings of each and every person.
Bill was dedicated to the work he did. He started as a mechanic in the 1970s and worked for decades fixing and maintaining cars for Firestone. His greatest and most difficult job; however, was maintaining his sobriety; a task that he faithfully completed for over 30 years having only slipped up for one day throughout those decades. He was also dedicated to working with others on their sobriety. He listened to people and never judged them. He never turned them away and was always ready to offer his support.
Bill was an ardent fan of Michigan State University athletics. He cheered on the Spartans in all sports. Whether it was a MSU team on the TV, a friend working on sobriety, or a family member needing encouragement, Bill's life was about cheering others on and doing all he could to see them at their best.
