Zeferino R. Solis

October 21, 1921 — December 4, 2012

Zeferino (Joe) Solis, born October 21, 1921 San Antonio, Texas passed away December 4, 2012 in Detroit Michigan. A veteran of World War II, Joe served four years and was part of the invasion force on D-Day. He married Frances Cisneros in 1949 and settled in Lincoln Park. Married 63 years, together they raised four children Frances Jr, Zeferino Joseph, Gilbert (Debbie), Lisa Tijerina (Gilberto); nine grandchildren Sal, Justin (deceased), Rio, Samantha, Garrett, Alex, D'Ana, Marco and Antonio. Retired after 35 years from Great Lakes Steel, he continued an active life and could often be found working in his yard perfecting his garden. He enjoyed Mexican music, dancing and dressing sharp. An avid reader of history and philosophy, he shared his knowledge and passion with all who knew him. He was immensely proud of his family. Joe's greatest treasures were his grandchildren whether it was sharing a meal or attending a sporting event nothing was ever more important.


Thank you for the time, love, and wisdom you gave us, we are richer because of it. Those memories will always be in our hearts and your gifts will be remembered and carried on by your family and friends.

Memorial Mass December 7th 2012 at St. André Bessette. Military memorial December 13th 2012 11:30am at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
