What kind of burial benefits can I get?

You may be eligible for Veterans burial allowances if you’re paying for the burial and funeral costs and you won’t be reimbursed by any other organization, like another government agency or the Veteran’s employer:

  • Self, legal spouse, and dependent interment or inurnment at a National Cemetery, including outer burial vault if needed
  • VA burial allowance for burial and funeral costs
  • VA plot or interment allowance for the cost of the plot (gravesite)
  • VA transportation allowance for the cost of transporting the Veteran’s remains to the final resting place
  • VA Military Honors (honorarium donations are recommended to support local VA groups)
  • VA burial flag (can be acquired by funeral home)
  • VA headstone, markers, medallion, plaque, and/or urn
  • Presidential Memorial Certificate
  • Bereavement Counseling

Honorable Discharge Paperwork

If you cannot locate your veteran's honorable discharge paperwork, you can request a copy of your DD214 and other military service records from the National Archives.
